| What is Reiki? |
| Reiki was first used by Tibetan
Buddhist monks over 5000 years ago but was rediscovered by
Dr Mikao Usui in Japan in the 1800's. The Japanese word Reiki
means 'Universal Energy'. Energy flows through all living
things but with disease, injury or stress our energy supplies
are depleted and the body is prevented from functioning properly.
Reiki is a complementary therapy which works with this energy,
transferring it to the client by way of the practitioner to
stimulate the body's own natural healing system. |
| Reiki does not impose a set of beliefs and
can, therefore, be used by people of any background and faith
or none at all. The only requisite is a desire to be healed. |
| What can Reiki do for me? |
| Reiki, like Reflexology is a complementary
therapy which treats the whole person and not just the symptoms
of disease. |
| Reiki can be seen to: |
- Accelerate healing
- Improve circulation
- Stimulate the body's natural chemicals, eg, endorphins
- Ease pain
- Eliminate toxins
- Ease tension
- Induce relaxation
- Reduce drug dependency, eg, alcohol, tobacco
- Give comfort to the dying
- Enhance the quality of our relationships
|
| Reiki is more than just a therapy; it can
become a way of life, opening our awareness and enhancing
our goals with a positive approach. Regular sessions can help
as a preventative measure to good health. |
| Who can benefit? |
| Reiki is a subtle energy and can be used
by all ages, including babies, children, the elderly and infirm
and pregnant mothers, regardless of our health condition.
It may be used alongside allopathic medicine or natural remedies
without concern as it acts in a complementary way. It encourages
responsibility for our own bodies and enables us to make positive
changes to our lives and develop a sense of well being. |
| What happens during a session? |
| Practitioner's hands are placed gently on
the body (or just above the body) in a number of positions
and the client's personal privacy and confidentiality is respected
at all times. The client draws Reiki into his/her body but
only as much as is needed at that time. It may be used on
a physical, mental, emotional or spiritual level and the effects
may differ from session to session. |
| The first session lasts approximately 1
½ hours (to include a lifestyle/medical consultation)
with subsequent sessions of 1 hour. |
| How will I feel? |
| Most people find Reiki highly relaxing and
calming with the resultant ease of tension and release. The
energy may be felt as heat, tingling or other responses or
nothing at all. Some may feel tearful or very tired but this
is often the beginning of the recovery process. The benefits
of Reiki are often with you for several days. |
Reiki does not
take the place of conventional medicine. |
