BEST/MSAS
Computerised Health Screening |
The
BEST/MSAS System (Electro Dermal Screening - EDS) |
| What
is the BEST/MSAS System? |
| The BEST/MSAS
system represents the latest in 21st century health screening
technology combined with acupuncture principles. This computerised,
high tech electro dermal screening instrument is non-invasive,
safe and quick with a detailed computer printout at the end
of screening. This can then form the basis for improving your
health. |
| Tests available: |
|
- Food intolerances
- Vitamin and Mineral deficiencies
- Environmental sensitivities
|
| Food intolerances
and nutritional deficiencies can be responsible for many well
known symptoms including weight gain, headaches, tiredness,
eczema and related skin disorders, joint pains, food cravings,
insomnia, digestive problems, e.g. IBS, bloating and gas to
name but a few. Some common health problems caused by environmental
sensitivities are hay fever, sinusitis, skin rashes, seasonal
rhinitis and eczema. |
| Health is the body's
natural state but it is heavily influenced by many stresses
including structural, nutritional, emotional and environmental.
We aim with the use of this sophisticated system to get a
picture of the internal and external factors affecting your
body. Armed with this specific information we can address
your particular needs and treat you holistically. |
| How does
the BEST/MSAS System screening work? |
| To perform the
screening we use an instrument called the MSAS (Meridian Stress
Assessment System) instrument. It takes readings of minute
electrical changes over acupuncture points to determine imbalances
and sensitivities within the body. A complete system of acupuncture
points exists along meridian lines throughout the body. We
use the points on the hands as control points to indicate
the function of areas of the body. Although based on acupuncture,
the BEST/MSAS System measures the points by pressing, as in
acupressure, rather than skin penetration of acupuncture needles. |
| What does
the screening process involve? |
| The process involves
pressing a small metal probe at points on the fingers. It
is non-invasive, safe and painless. The computer sends a resonance
signal of the item being screened, for example, a food, to
the client, who will only feel the sensation of the probe
touching the skin. |
| The computer records
each reading as the point is measured. At the end of the screening,
a full colour printout is provided of all the items tested.
Most people are lacking some nutrients and are sensitive to
a number of foods. We are then able to evaluate the results
and make advice based on foods, nutrients, healing and lifestyle.
After only a few weeks, there is usually considerable improvement
in a condition and by following this up with a further screening
in three months, the progress can be monitored and a revised
plan formulated. |
| What do
I need to do before my appointment? |
- Drink 2 litres of water the day before your appointment.
- Avoid hand cream before your test.
- Bring details of any medication and vitamins which
you are presently taking. The tests will not interfere
with any medication except a pacemaker.
- Arrive 15 minutes early for your appointment to fill
in a health questionnaire or arrange to complete this
prior to your visit.

| History/Development
of Electro Dermal Screening |
| In the 1950’s,
a German Doctor, namely Dr Reinhold Voll developed a system
to measure the electrical conductivity of acupuncture points.
These points have much less resistance than the surrounding
tissue and can conduct electrical current more easily. This
became known as Electro Dermal Screening (EDS). All matter
has its own vibratory signal, known as a signature and so
he was able to: |
- Test the energy levels of the body’s vital organs
- Identify food intolerances, toxic substances and microbes
impairing the body’s function
- Screen the body’s vitamin and mineral status
|
| He found that by
using these same acupuncture bio points, the effects of toxic
chemicals could be minimised and appropriate remedies identified.
However, this whole process was awkward and long winded which
limited its use and efficiency by the practitioner. Large
numbers of phials containing the substances to be tested had
to be stocked to carry out a beneficial screening. |
| There are parallels
between the body’s reaction in Electro Dermal Screening
(EDS) and Kinesiology. The latter is performed through muscle
testing. A client holds the substance to be tested and the
muscles respond positively or negatively depending on whether
the energy of the item is tolerated by the body. |
| However, in the
late 1970’s James Clark in the US, after 16 years’
research, perfected computer Electro Dermal Screening (EDS)
so that these measurements could be taken quickly and accurately.
This resulted in the introduction of the LISTEN System in
1991. The signatures of over 18,000 substances to be tested
were programmed into this system and a printout could be produced
showing the tested substances and results. This was a real
breakthrough and made it easier for the client to assimilate
and put into practice. In 1997 this procedure was further
modified and resulted in the launch of the BEST/MSAS System
in 1998. Now the substances to be tested number over 40,000. |
| This equipment
is not diagnostic, as it does not perform a biochemical test.
However it measures the body’s response to electromagnetic
signatures. The relationship between this specific signature
and the patient’s bio-energy is stored and interpreted
by the practitioner. |
| Nutritional
Levels - Vitamin and Minerals |
| Vitamin and minerals
assessment is a recommended test for all. It indicates the
nutritional levels of the body - which vitamins and minerals
are at the optimum levels and which are not. Nutrients are
an essential part of almost all bodily processes including: |
- Blood formation
- Immune system
- Nervous system
- Brain function
- Balancing emotions
- Food digestion
- Healthy skin
- Antioxidants
- Bone formation
- Energy release
- Sense of smell
|
|
| Most nutrients
are supplied to us through food and water and used by the
body in its day-to-day activities. Factory food processing
and modern farming practices tend to deplete essential nutrients
from food. Many of today's diets lack such nutrients. The
hectic, stressful and chemical laden lifestyles many people
live today also put extra strain on the body and increase
its nutritional requirements. |
| Research has consistently
shown that adequate levels of essential nutrients allow the
body to function at an optimal level and engender good health.
Adequate levels of vitamins and minerals are a precursor to
aiding recovery from many ailments. The BEST/MSAS System is
a valuable tool in identifying low levels. It takes only ten
minutes to determine an individual's status, allowing the
practitioner to recommend an appropriate course of action
with confidence. |
The following nutrients
form the standard test list:
Boron, Calcium, Chromium, Cobalt, Copper, Germanium, Iodine,
Iron, Manganese, Magnesium, Molybdenum, Potassium, Selenium,
Silicon, Sodium, Sulphur, Zinc, Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Vitamin
B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Vitamin
C, P, D, E, H, K, Acidophilus, Digestive Enzymes, Essential
Fatty Acids, Hydrochloric acid. |
It
is important to note that the BEST/MSAS System does not
perform any kind of chemical analysis;
it simply monitors the energetic response of acupuncture
points. |
| Food Sensitivities/
Intolerances |
| In addition to
vitamin and mineral levels, food sensitivity screening is
recommended for most clients. Food sensitivity, or intolerance
differs significantly from allergic reactions. |
| Food Allergies |
| A food allergy
can be defined as any adverse, and often immediate reaction
to food in which the immune system is involved. Symptoms include
swollen lips, mouth and tongue, urticaria (rash) and vomiting.
These will occur very soon after eating an allergenic food.
Shellfish, some berries and peanuts, are the common foods
that induce an allergic reaction. With an allergy, the immune
system mistakes a food for a 'parasite' and goes into overdrive
to repel it. Allergies are very specific for example green
peppers can be fine but red peppers definitely not. The only
reliable tests for allergic reactions are the Prick or RAST
(Radio-immunodiffusion Test). |
| Food Intolerance |
| Food intolerance,
on the other hand, the symptoms differ in that they often
appear many hours, even days after eating the offending food.
In the case of an intolerance, partially digested food enters
the blood stream and triggers a normal immune system reaction.
This reaction is very different to an allergic reaction and
tends to lead to long term problems such as anxiety, mouth
ulcers, aching joints and muscles, fatigue, headaches/migraine,
sinus and mucus problems, digestive disturbances (indigestion,
discomfort, bloating and gas), hyperactivity and weight gain.
The most common food intolerances are wheat and dairy products
and stimulants like coffee, sugar and chocolate. Food intolerances
are very common and unlike allergies, can be reversed. |
| The BEST/MSAS System
is very good at checking for food intolerances not allergies.
Food intolerances can be a significant factor in many illnesses.
Once the problem foods are identified (which takes about 20
minutes with the BEST/MSAS System) they should be avoided
for about three months. After this time the body usually becomes
tolerant to them again and many health conditions can significantly
improve in this time. |
The standard food
intolerance test consists of 114 foods, including:
Butter, Cheese - Cheddar, Cheese - Cottage, Cheese - Goat,
Yoghurt - Cow, Lactose, Milk - Cow, Milk - Goat, Milk - Soya,
Milk - Rice, Egg - White, Egg - Whole, Egg - Yolk, Margarine,
Codfish, Crab, Plaice, Prawn, Salmon, Sardines, Trout - Rainbow,
Tuna Fish, Apple, Banana, Black Currant, Fig, Grape (red &
green), Grapefruit, Lemon, Orange, Peach, Pear, Barley, Corn,
Rice, Rye, Wheat - Bran, Wheat - Whole, Bean - Kidney, Bean
- Soy, Chick Peas, Lentil, Beef, Chicken, Ham - Pork, Lamb,
Liver - Beef, Liver - Chicken etc. etc. |
It
is important to note that the BEST/MSAS System does not
perform any kind of chemical analysis;
it simply monitors the energetic response of acupuncture
points. |
| Environmental
Sensitivities |
| In the same way
that people can have allergies and intolerances to foods (see
food sensitivity page for details) they can also have them
to environmental factors. By being aware of what environmental
factors cause a problem and then avoiding them, this reduces
the immune systems load, freeing energy to promote health. |
The standard BEST/MSAS
environmental test consists of 44 substances including:
Cat epithelium, Cat hair, Dog epithelium, Dog hair, Duck feather,
Goose feathers, Mixed feathers, Horse hair, Cotton, Kleenex,
Mohair, Rubber, Silk, Honeybee, Wasp, Grass pollens, House
dust mite, Tree pollen, Flower & shrub pollen, Birch mix
pollen, Wheat, Wheat smut, Aspergillus fumigatus, Botrytis,
Hay dust, Mattress dust, Dust upholstery, Cigarette Smoke,
Fibreglass, Paint - oil based, Paint - water based, Ink -
printers |
